Cruise Travel Insurance

February 05, 2020

Both Brian and Jill traveled on cruise ships in 2019, Brian to Alaska and Jill down the California Coast. Jill is also cruising to Alaska to celebrate her 70th birthday this summer.

Brian didn’t get cruise insurance but Jill did. It was her feeling that neither she nor her spouse (Bonnie is 82) knows when health concerns may crop up taking away your vacation.

A recent article in Kiplinger’s Retirement Report, December 2019, mentioned such sites as www.InsureMyTrip.com and www.SquareMouth.com.

Some insurance is geared to physically active trips while others are geared to cruises. Two mentioned were Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection and WaveCare (we are not familiar with either and are not endorsing either). Your travel agent may also be familiar with travel insurance options.

Carol Muller, vice president of Berkshire Hathaway Travel Insurance, says that if you are planning on buying travel insurance, do so after the first payment, to ensure coverage for pre-existing conditions.
